Sedro-Woolley cracking down on partying

It’s the gateway to the North Cascades, and evidently not too far removed from the wild west.
Barhoppers and partiers are pushing the small Skagit County city of Sedro-Woolley to crack down of nightlife in a town believed by most to be quite sleepy.
“We actually have a bit of a reputation for being the place where people come to party,” says Rick Schafer, owner of Cascade Physical Therapy. “At one point last year I had six bars within half a block of my business.”
Schafer is leading a petition drive to get the city council to toughen regulations on new bars, including a public hearing process. The proposal would also limit new bars to one every six blocks.
“We’ve had problems with public urination, people sleeping in their cars, vandalism,” says Schafer. “At some point we have to ask ourselves if this is the community we want to be.”
Others in town downplay the issues, saying the city shouldn’t be trying to drive out any business at a time when revenue is desperately needed.
The city council had a meeting to discuss the issue.
